“The price of anything is the amount of life you exchange for it.” — Henry David Thoreau
The mind is a powerful thing; just search “the power of the mind” and be prepared to go to some strange places. Beyond videos of people breaking bricks with their faces, the fact that your mind can modify reality is not pseudoscience. The affects are real, but should never be confused with the effort required to reach those goals. True manifestation of reality needs daily action to make the results happen.
“Focus on what you want and you will get it” is just a campy phrase without action behind it. There is evidence of the power of your mind’s focus, but nothing akin to full-world manipulation. Telling people a drink they were consuming had caffeine raised their blood pressure, even though it was just water1. The mind caused a reaction in the body to match what it thought was happening. A mindset can also affect your own longevity. People who think they are less active than others in a similar age bracket die younger than those who believe they are more active, even if their actual activity levels were similar2. Certainly, these are both interesting cases, but they do not prove the mind’s ability to manifest outcomes. In fact, most articles on manifestation point to the need to take steps in your everyday life to achieve your goals3.
You have to actively participate in forming your own world. Yes, attitude matters, but you still have to take action to make progress. Simply visualizing a house or a new job won’t help you achieve those things. Visualization, want, positive thinking, etc. are all simply tricks in order to make daily progress towards your goals. Like forming a financial plan, then using rewards to stick to it. Or by exercising and thinking you are more active to live longer. All of this to say – certainly visualize your goals, but then get out there and take action to make them reality.
Action: Take daily actions this week to move you towards your goal(s).
