Your Time is Valuable – Uninstall Games from Your Phone

“I don’t need to get a life, I am a gamer, I have lots of lives.”  — Unknown

“Do you?” — Another Unknown

Phones are sneaky. They push updates and no longer ask for your permission to do so. This isn’t inherently bad, but we have noticed more and more apps being auto-installed. Games we never asked for, nor wanted. Easy fix? Uninstall them.

It’s no secret phone usage has been exponentially on the rise. Smartphone usage from 2011 to 2023 has increased by 718%, with average screen time being approximately 3 hours and 50 minutes per day. Gen Z takes the cake with an average of 6 hours and 5 minutes/day, with 56% reporting feeling addicted1. Phone companies, social media, and gaming providers are loving these stats; game apps especially. Studies indicate that both mobile gaming hours per week and minutes per mobile game session were positively associated with problem gaming2. Problem gaming is found to be similar to some clinical addictions like gambling, drug, and alcohol abuse3.

There is a time and place for screen time. Unfortunately, considering studies show significant association between excess use of cell phones and negative effects on physical and mental health wellbeing, it’s worth fighting back4. Each game that gets installed tempts you to try it. Hours later you could still be playing a game you didn’t even want in the first place. Your time is more valuable than that. Train yourself to uninstall anything you didn’t intentionally choose, and free up your time.

Action: Go through your phone and uninstall any games you didn’t purposefully install.

Hint: Level up and uninstall all your mobile games.
