“Kale is a superfood and it’s special power is tasting bad.” — Jim Gaffigan
Hold on for this one: Eating is required to live. Food is fuel for everything you do. Just like any engine, if you put crap into your body, then it will run like crap. In a world where people eat most of their meals out of packages, take a look at what your body really needs. Do it a favor and work superfoods into your diet.
Mention superfoods and you might be met with a roll of the eyes and a comment about “that fad is over”. True, fad diets are dumb and ineffective1. But eating healthy is not a fad; it is a consistent approach to good health. Even though the term “superfoods” was invented for marketing, research shows major benefits to clean eating2. Think of this as eating the rainbow. Mix superfoods into your normal diet to include variety of necessary nutrients3. According to studies, they are able to increase the vitality of the human body and can be a good choice for improving overall health by strengthening the immune system4. Among the most important antioxidants in superfoods are vitamins A, C and E – all of which are required for your body’s daily functions.
Even if some science is mixed on results, it’s obvious these are better for you than foods like Pop-Tarts. Don’t try to go from zero to perfect here. Eating things you don’t like is a sure way to give up on healthy meal choices. Instead, gradually incorporate healthier foods into your routine. Start with a meal a day and go from there. Then, keep with it.
Action: Add superfoods to one meal per day.
